Gym Goals & Strategies

The Need

Obesity in children and adolescents is generally caused by lack of physical activity, unhealthy eating patterns, or a combination of the two, with genetics and lifestyle both playing important roles in determining a child’s weight. Our society has become very sedentary. Television, computer and video games contribute to children’s inactive lifestyles. 43% of adolescents watch more than 2 hours of television each day. Children, especially girls, become less active as they move through adolescence1. Moreover, “Children who were overweight at age 2 or later during their preschool years face a five times higher risk of being overweight at age 12 than youngsters who were not overweight early on2.” The JJ’s Playhouse Gym will aid in decreasing the growing number of obese children.

The Goals

To decrease the numbers in the growing problem of obesity in children through educational and training programs.

To increase the awareness of healthy eating and physical exercise in children.

To provide local elementary and middle school students exercise equipment specially designed for children

The Strategy

Creating a recreational atmosphere that’s safe, fun, and stimulating for kids. By providing exercise equipment designed for kids, kids will feel comfortable and excited about actually working out and exercising regularly.
Increasing kid’s awareness of obesity, eating properly, and staying physically fit. Developing educational and training programs that’s easy to understand, and easy to relate to, will help kids learn and retain information about health. Engaging professionals in this industry that have a heart for kids will help JJ’s Playhouse reach its overall goal of decreasing the numbers of obesity in children.
